In a world where content consumption is evolving faster than ever, Free Ad-Supported TV (FAST) emerges as a beacon of innovation, offering a win-win solution for both content owners and viewers alike. But what exactly is FAST, and why should content owners consider it as a valuable asset?

You have content, now what? A complete guide to launching a FAST channel
Free Ad-supported Streaming TV (FAST) channels bring the linear television experience to free streaming, creating an opportunity for content owners, producers, and distributors to monetize existing content.
Unlike paid-for streaming platforms or cable TV, there is no subscription fee, with revenue derived from ad sales. Combined with low set up costs, global reach, and enhanced revenue streams, FAST is an ideal entry to over-the-top (OTT) streaming.

The Future of FAST – What to Expect from 2024
It’s no surprise that great new content, hyper-personalization, AI and improved user experience are top of the FAST agenda for 2024.
2023 witnessed a paradigm shift in consumer behavior, technological advancements, and collaborative efforts within the industry. Viewers continued to migrate towards free ad-supported streaming services, drawn by the convenience of on-demand content, and industry giants expanded their libraries, offering even more content to cater to wider audiences.
As the popularity of streaming platforms continues to soar to new heights – and the price gap between ad-supported and ad-free tiers widens – we can expect FAST to become even more well entrenched in the year ahead.
Below, Russell Foy, FAST Channels TV CEO, provides invaluable insight into the future of FAST. So, what can we expect from the next 12 months?

What is FAST?
Free Ad-supported Television (FAST) is, as the name suggests, free and funded by ads, meaning viewers can watch live and on-demand content without having to pay for a cable package or streaming service.
To viewers, FAST channels are almost indistinguishable from traditional linear TV, but instead of being broadcast, all the content is streamed.
You might be thinking it’s the same as AVOD…right? Well, not exactly. AVOD, or Ad-supported Video On Demand provides viewers with access to on demand programming in an ad-supported environment – think Hulu or Netflix Basic. FAST on the other hand serves viewers with ad-supported channels that run scheduled programming in real time. Many FAST platforms also offer the advantage of video on demand (VOD) content, so consumers get the best of both worlds all in one place.
-
Why FAST TV?
Free ad-supported television (FAST) represents a massive opportunity for content providers to reach new audiences and explore new revenue streams.
Its rising popularity can be seen in the growing number of big companies investing in this new medium, we all know the big hitters in this space. Even subscription video on demand (SVOD) companies are introducing ad-supported tiers to their subscription offer.
